Check out our brand new guestbook, photo album and resource articles!Welcome to the official blog for Amazon Community Animal Rescue, Education & Safety (Amazon c.a.r.e.s.). Please subscribe to our no-spam list for updates!! We seek better health & living conditions for ALL living beings of the Peruvian Amazon region. We believe that all living beings are deserving of appropriate care, respect, and protection from cruelty & neglect. Please read about us, visit our photo album, and PLEASE make a donation if you can. Every dollar makes a difference to the homeless and ill cats and dogs of Peru's Amazon region. Prior to Amazon c.a.r.e.s., they had no "voice." You can save a life today!
THANK YOU FOR VISITING!

Happy Holidays!
I am be busy assembling traditional gift baskets for my employees that consist of "panetones," a type of fruit cake (don't worry - they are much better than the ones that are passed on for years in the USA). There is also a chocolate bar, milk (in a can so it needs no refridgeration), and sugar (to make homemade hot chocolate). There is also an inexpensive bottle of "champagne" (the French would be horrified). These gift baskets make up the bulk of the holiday dinner. Wealthier families will enjoy chicken and some will even have turkey (although my one experience with "turkey" in Iquitos was memorable in a not so good way!).
I have received some donations recently, and updating my website is a slow process, so I want to acknowledge these donations here!

I also owe a debt of gratitude to Margie McHann of Memphis, TN. She sent out an email to many animal rescuers about my activities, and the result was amazing and uplifting. People sent new and gently used dog items that we desperately needed. One grooming salon in Miami even held a collar & leash drive for me! We work very hard to ensure emotional stimulation & stability for shelter dogs, as they face special challenges. Now we have some HIGH QUALITY toys that are simply not available in Peru. The items were mailed to my Mom in Memphis, TN, so I regret that there are donors I have yet to acknowledge, but for now, I send out my heartfelt thanks to
I have just completed a 2007 calendar about Amazon c.a.r.e.s. It covers our 2006 activities. The calendars should be beautiful (I have yet to see the finished product) and the cost will be nominal. They are bi-lingual, and I would love to send some to the US. Once I have a final cost for mailing I will post more information.
Earlier in the year I was honored by the Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF). Read about it here. The recognition is very gratifying, and I finally feel comfortable patting myself on the back, knowing that Amazon c.a.r.e.s. is making a TREMENDOUS impact in this remote and poor area of the world. In case you missed it, I posted an inspiring story recently about my one of my first 2004 rescue dogs. Read it here.
The DDAF has recently joined forces with the Humane Society. I am saddened that there may be less recognition for hardworking individuals like myself, but also recognize the benefits of coalition building to reach similar goals. In any case, I am not unknown to the Humane Society. They do have a small, but growing, international branch. They administer a small Trust that administers grants on an invitation-only basis. Thus, it is with great fanfare that I announce the news that the Alice Morgan Wright-Edith J. Good Trust has granted Amazon c.a.r.e.s $2000 to promote humane education programs!!!
I am currently struggling to learn some new technology so that I can actually send out newsletters! In 2.5 years I have only sent out one, so if you subscribe, you can feel secure that I won't be bothering you with a barrage of emails (I would also protect the confidential list!). Hopefully I'll have a snazzy "opt-in subscription" form soon, but for now, I am still hopeful that readers of my blog will subscribe to this blog for updates. All you have to do is enter your email in the little box in the column to the right.
May I ask a favor?
